In 1992 Shae started his apprenticeship at his Fathers sign shop in the sunny Hawkes Bay, this at a time when yachting took up all his spare time. On completion of his apprenticeship, a 4 month trip around Europe was the celebration of gaining a trade, then returning back to working at Hayter & Flemming Signs in Napier with a very empty bank account. One year after returning to Napier, a job was offered in Christchurch, which was accepted, and the one-way Cook Strait ferry crossing was booked. Shae worked at Signwise Christchurch from 1999, first as a tradesman, then as a production manager right up until the day after the 2011 February earthquake, where an offer to purchase the Wellington branch of Signwise was accepted. Another one-way Cook Strait ferry crossing was booked, and he is still the owner of Signwise Wellington surrounded by a great team. In late February, an opportunity presented itself to purchase the Auckland branch of Signwise, which took two months to get acceptance and approval, and by the 2nd May 2016, Signwise Auckland had a new ownership structure, which includes two Auckland based partners. When not either in front of the computer, or on the tools, Shae loves to travel, usually looking for a sign show somewhere in the world, snowboarding, and red wine. One day when there is more time, he would love to get back into ocean activities like yachting and diving.
Allen comes from a well-rounded background of the sign and graphic industry, working closely with architect and event specialists in Johannesburg while running and owning a sign business for 12 years. This provided a great platform to further his skills by joining the Signwise team in 2015 . He now resides in Wellington with his partner and two boys and has learnt to take full advantage of the sunshine, no matter how many minutes it lasts. Overseeing and managing projects is his passion and he thrives under pressure. He relishes at the opportunities and challenges that are presented through new and existing clients and their projects. He is excited about being part of a rapidly changing industry and welcomes the use of new technologies to improve products and services. Combining this with his knowledge of traditional signage ensures that the ideas are always fresh and innovative when presenting them to clients.
Will has been keen on all things design from a young age and has worked in many facets of the design and print industries over fifteen years. He has experienced first-hand what it takes to make a splash in the design world, gaining experience in graphic, industrial and architectural design. He has even been lucky enough to collect a couple of medals for his work at national competitions. Will welcomes the challenges the signage industry brings and is always eager to add his ideas and creative flair to the next project. Outside the work arena he plays the drums in an original rock band, flys R/C Aircraft and enjoys socialising with a single malt or craft beer in hand.
