In 1992 Shae started his apprenticeship at his Fathers sign shop in the sunny Hawkes Bay, this at a time when yachting took up all his spare time. On completion of his apprenticeship, a 4 month trip around Europe was the celebration of gaining a trade, then returning back to working at Hayter & Flemming Signs in Napier with a very empty bank account. One year after returning to Napier, a job was offered in Christchurch, which was accepted, and the one-way Cook Strait ferry crossing was booked. Shae worked at Signwise Christchurch from 1999, first as a tradesman, then as a production manager right up until the day after the 2011 February earthquake, where an offer to purchase the Wellington branch of Signwise was accepted. Another one-way Cook Strait ferry crossing was booked, and he is still the owner of Signwise Wellington surrounded by a great team. In late February, an opportunity presented itself to purchase the Auckland branch of Signwise, which took two months to get acceptance and approval, and by the 2nd May 2016, Signwise Auckland had a new ownership structure, which includes two Auckland based partners. When not either in front of the computer, or on the tools, Shae loves to travel, usually looking for a sign show somewhere in the world, snowboarding, and red wine. One day when there is more time, he would love to get back into ocean activities like yachting and diving.
I am fortune to have been employed by an industry and not one particular company, with experience in both supply of signage consumables and the manufacture of signs. Prior to being a director at Signwise I was Sales & Marketing Manager at Total Supply, running the sales team, setting and implementing the marketing strategy and handling key accounts, I learnt a lot at Total and intend to bring those lessons into Signwise to further grow the business and team.
Luc started his sign making career with an apprenticeship at Signwise Christchurch. His experience includes five years working with large scale print companies as a Production Manager for the Sign division. Some of his career highlights include working on the Air New Zealand ‘Lord of the Rings’ Plane and big boat work wrapping Superyachts and Race Boats in the UK and Europe. When Luc’s not at work he enjoys playing football for the mighty North Shore Seagulls, catching that elusive 20lb snapper from his kayak and camping with his wife and young daughter during summer.
Paul’s background is based on 7 years in Carpentry combined with Print Advertising for a further 8 years. A move to Auckland following the Christchurch earthquakes led Paul to the signage industry where he now has 4 years’ experience and plenty of expertise to offer. Paul’s attention to detail and patient manner means he has developed an excellent rapport with Shop-fitters, Retail chains, Corporate Businesses and Architects. Paul’s ethos for life is to maintain a positive outlook and can do attitude which in return allows him to bring you the customer the best experience to your signage needs, making it an easy process with great end results. Outside of work you can find him mixing up records on his DJ decks, exploring Auckland beaches, cooking on the BBQ in summer and his all-time favourite socialising with his friends over a few craft beers.
Cat has recently joined the Signwise team in Auckland and has instantly settled into the team bringing her experience and enthusiasm to the fore. She has a design background and has been working as a graphic designer for the last few years. Cat’s job is to ensure all graphics are produced on time, on budget, are of a high quality, and looking good for our clients. Cat has a passion for art and all things creative, in her spare time she enjoys painting and sketching her own artwork.
James relocated to Auckland from the Bay of Plenty with his partner and two young children, James is relishing the opportunity to run the technical side of our production here at Signwise. James comes from an excellent signage pedigree and has worked at many of the top sign shops in Auckland. He is responsible for ensuring only the highest quality of work leaves our workshop, that jobs are completed as quoted and within budget, and that all OSH requirements are well taken care of. He will often be managing an install or running a vehicle application here in our workshop. Outside of work, James enjoys a spot of fishing however there’s not really much time for any of that with a new baby in the house! Say hello to James if you see him zipping about in one of the bright Signwise vans.
Haroon has been part of our team here at Signwise since the beginning of 2008 and has had several different roles over that time. These days you will find him in the workshop supervising our manufacturing operation, or out on site running an install. Haroon’s career has been mainly in the screenprint industry where he spent 12 years at Imago Screenprint, earning apprentice of the year in 1999. The last 6 years at Imago were spent as Production Manager before joining Signwise. Haroon is married to Shareen and they have 2 children.
