BURN GETS NOTICED

Given today's emphasis on looking after our health, the fitness business has become one of the most competitive of all sectors. So, how to get your brand noticed? Burn 24Hr Fitness in Takapuna is the flagship outlet of the newest kid on the block, and Signwise Auckland is proud to have helped them to establish their corporate identity.

Burn's management knew what they wanted, even originating their distinctive Burn logo design. Then they called us in to make it real, by creating the illuminated signage in 3D and installing it on the fascia of their Barry's Point Road building.

Because the Burn facility is opposite a supermarket, there already existed a great opportunity to get noticed by a large number of potential clients. "We set out to make sure they got an eyeful of the Burn 24Hr Fitness sign while they did their shopping," says Dave Woodfield, Signwise Auckland's Managing Director. "We needed to come up with a cost-effective solution to give maximum visibility day and night.

"An important part of what we offer is our expertise, which involves listening to what our client wants, then specifying appropriate signage for their situation," he adds. "Our ultimate success is measured by the satisfaction of our clients, and by their recommending us to their business contacts."

The lettering and neon-outlined logo of Burn 24Hr Fitness was cut from 25ml PVC and then affixed to the new sign panels. The illuminated flame graphics and lettering act as a beacon at night for clients and prospects. It took us two days to install our handiwork onsite. Hot work, indeed.

BROADCASTING THEIR BRAND

Most of us who have been to a major sporting event over the past few years will have noticed those huge 'TV trucks' parked at the grounds. They belong to OnSite Broadcasting (NZ) Ltd, better known as OSB, the initials on their logo. Technically speaking, the trucks are called 'outside broadcast vehicles' and their job is to transmit pictures and audio digitally from the game to the host broadcaster.

In 2010 OSB was purchased by Sky Network Television, so the newly signed trucks now feature the SkySports livery along the side. Signwise Auckland was commissioned by SkySport’s agency, Brandspank to manufacture and apply the signage on OSB's fleet of 12 vehicles, based in Auckland and Christchurch.

Because the vehicles are in constant demand for rugby, cricket, netball and other sports broadcasts – as well as major public events like Christmas in the Park – they had to be rebranded progressively over a two to three month period. The work took place at Sky Television's Mt Wellington and Christchurch headquarters, with Signwise Auckland's hard-working applicators using mobile scaffolding to get close to their work in both locations.

On this occasion the designs were supplied by our client's agency. We used standard digital printing on one end of the vehicles, with an attention-getting silver metallic wrap covering the remainder of the surfaces.

Next time you're at a big game, check out those huge SkySport trucks, sporting world-class branding from a world-class signmaker. Yes folks, that was all our own work.

SIGNS ALONG THE WAY

Signwise Auckland may be better known for our fleet signage, but we also make quite an impact with our freestanding signage. Case in point: this new street signage we built and installed in East Tamaki, shared by instrument calibration company Tex Onsite, and SuperStart Preschool.

Look at the pic and you may ask, What's so different about that sign? In fact there's more to it than meets the eye. It's built from durable, lightweight aluminium and prefabricated in our workshop, so installation is generally quick and easy. Freestanding plinth signs like this used to be prohibitively expensive for many small businesses, but the good news is that this new aluminium system has brought significant cost savings over the steel framing that was used in the past. These signs can be built to virtually any size, and if changes become necessary later (for example, one company rebrands, or another moves and is replaced), the graphics are easily updated.

Signwise Auckland can also supply these freestanding signs with either internal or external illumination, which is especially useful if the business is located on a busy road, or trade after the hours of darkness. All in all, this impressive product offers versatility and a great look for companies wanting a bold street presence that gets noticed every time. Ask us how we can help your company along the way.

SIGNWISE PROFILE: Christine Moor

Signwise Auckland's Sales Co-ordinator Christine Moor  joined us in June last year. If you're contacting us for the first time, sales@signwise.co.nz or 09-526 5151, chances are you'll discuss your signage needs with Christine. Her responsibilities also include lead-generating, quoting and general customer service.

Christine came to us from a printing background, which has many similar facets to signage, so she has adapted to the requirements of our industry very quickly. As an experienced wedding photographer who had to embrace the digital age in that discipline, Christine was unfazed by the unfamiliar technology at Signwise Auckland. "In order to know how to quote accurately, I have to be tuned in to the technical side of our business," she says. "We've been noticing quite a pick-up in our workloads over the past several months, especially with some of our larger customers rebranding, so they've kept me busy since I came on board."

Christine is at present working part-time with us (10 am to 2 pm daily), because the youngest of her two girls has just started school. In her spare time she loves to travel with her family, especially within New Zealand. You can be sure that on her future travels she'll be taking a close interest in the signs she notices around the country.
